That quote is so true when it comes to the use of the eyes in therapy!
Accelerated Resourcing can be used during a Brainspotting session at any time to help the client positively resource well, or near the end of session. These resourcing exercises are held tentatively for the client to use. Any number of these guided imagery exercises can be used to help accelerate the healing process and works in a time limited setting. It has been developed through years of experience as I worked in a managed care organization and used it to treat hundreds of patients. This newly developed training takes just one afternoon and will enhance and supplement your Brainspotting sessions! Accelerated Resourcing was created from a combination of Brainspotting, concepts from EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), and various guided imagery exercises to accelerate the healing process for clients. I had 140+ clients where I worked using traditional therapy techniques and felt overloaded. I was getting 5-6 new clients weekly, and the case load kept growing. I decided to diligently only use Brainspotting/EMDR with Feedback Informed Care, and over time my caseload was reduced to about 40 clients as clients graduated from therapy quickly. Through this process, I created a series of positive resourcing exercises in my Brainspotting sessions leading to rapid results that is now called Accelerated Resourcing. At this point, I exclusively use Brainspotting & Accelerated Resourcing. I have 25+ clients that are seen weekly, whereas other team members see clients once every 3-6 weeks. Here's great overview on Brainspotting found here or directly reference David Grand's Website. When something traumatic or disturbing happens, various aspects of that original experience are stored in the brain. Present events trigger that dysfunctional memory, resulting in an over reaction for the brain. Brainspotting was founded by David Grand: "Where you look affects how you feel." Brainspotting therapists help facilitate this healing process by helping a client find an eye position(s) that stimulates certain parts of the brain where the trauma/disturbing experience is stored. In a mindfully aware state, one process past traumas in this way with an attuned therapist that helps facilitate emotional healing deep within the brain's neuro-network, leading to healing and resolution. Here's an informative and advanced explanation from David Grand on various aspects of Brainspotting. Talk therapy or CBT is helpful for some as it mostly stimulates the frontal cortex of the brain, where one gets insight, ideas, perspectives from the therapist. But has it's limitations. It can be helpful for those with a clear mind (very subjective), and not having past emotional influencing events that limit individual's ability to change their perspective or behaviors. However most people have some sort of trauma or past disturbing experiences that are influenced by the amygdala, limbic system, and neuro networks as far back/deep into the back of the brain and brain stem. Those areas of the brain are not easily accessed through talk therapy. Brainspotting / Eye Movement related therapies can stimulate those areas of the brain and stimulate it in a way to facilitate healing. Talk therapy in part is about building a relationship with the client and providing insights and perspective that may be helpful to consider. But, many times nothing a therapist says will convince the heart of what the mind can cognitively understand. There are beliefs and ideas so ingrained from the past or past trauma that isn't simply addressed by talking it out. And in regard to a therapeutic relationship, too much of it can be a codependent relationship - ultimately unhelpful for the client. Brainspotting / Eye Movement related therapies help address the root issues in a way that empowers clients. Many times in sessions client's brain/neuro-network resolves and realizes things on its own to complete healing! An empowerment concept is made from a TV series New Amsterdam by Dr. Frome. He realizes that clients become dependent on him. They could only open up to him, clients weren't empowered to live life without him or address things apart from in his sessions. That's unhealthy! We want to empower clients to live life on their own outside of therapy. I believe the therapies discussed here does provide that empowerment and avoid codependency on a therapist. Whom is this training for? Anyone who has taken Brainspotting Phase 1. Masters/PhD Level therapist: including but not limited to LPCC, LCSW, LMFT, PsyD, PhD, AMFT, MSW, Associates and Trainees. An affordable training that just takes an afternoon. This is especially helpful for those working in a managed cared setting where there are a lot of clients and limited time. This therapy has been developed to quickly bring clients freedom, healing, and improve! Potentially leads to faster graduation from therapy and a lower caseload over time. My personal testimony: I currently average a 25+ client caseload and able to see clients almost weekly, where as clinicians in my organization are seeing clients every 2-4+ weeks due to having 60-100+ clients. Easily integrate this training with your Brainspotting practice. No CEU available at this time. But, it'll be worth your time and money! A short investment, but it can yield long term gains if you use and practice it! 1st soft launch training was held March 2023
